Dr. Cynthia Maya Beristain

Ph.D., C.Psych.

Clinical and School Psychologist

I am a bilingual (Spanish/English) clinical and school psychologist with over 20 years of experience. I have been registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) since 2008. Central to my work is inclusive, culturally responsive, and neuroaffirming care. I incorporate evidence-based assessment and intervention methods tailored to achieve meaningful outcomes for children, adolescents, young adults, and families.

I provide comprehensive assessments for a range of neurodevelopmental conditions (Autism, ADHD, LD, IDD) and mental health concerns (anxiety, depression, impulse control, trauma) to determine whether a diagnosis is warranted, identify strengths and challenges, and translate findings into practical recommendations. I also consult with families, schools, and other clinicians to promote consistency across settings. I offer interventions for youth experiencing emotional and relationship challenges and their families to help them navigate difficulties and enhance well-being. My treatment approach is tailored to the unique needs of each client and family and draws upon evidence-based structured, relational, and attachment-focused therapies.

I earned a Ph.D. in School and Clinical Child Psychology from OISE/University of Toronto and an M.Sc. in School Psychology from the University of Southern Maine. My training and professional experience include public school (Toronto District School Board, Framingham Public Schools), community mental health (Youthdale Treatment Centres, OISE Psychology Clinic, Surrey Place), and private practice settings. I have taught graduate courses at OISE/UofT and served as Director of Child and Adolescent Services at the OISE Psychology Clinic. Over the past 10 years, I have also provided clinical supervision and mentorship to future and early career psychologists
